“ARRIBA/ABAJO”
JOY LAKING PAINTS SOUTH AMERICA
NOVEMBER 5 – 19, 2009
OPENING: NOVEMBER 5th, 6 TO 8 P.M.
His Excellency Edgar Torres,
(Bolivia’s Ambassador to Canada)
and
Dr. Ivar Mendez will open the exhibition
One hundred percent of
the sales
will be donated to a Bolivian Art Project.
The aim of the Bolivian art project is to develop an on-going art program in a remote, disadvantaged area of Bolivia. Our intent is to partner with the National Academy of Art ) Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes to develop a credit program for their post-secondary students. The credit will be earned by the student doing a one month internship teaching art to children in the remote area. Our intent is that the costs of travel, accommodations and art supplies will be covered by the project.
Last year, on the advice of Dr Ivar Mendez, we donated almost $ 5000 from the sale of my South American Sketches to fund the first issue of Otre Arte, a quality art magazine produced by ANBA and devoted to Bolivan art. The magazine’s production continues and is now self-sufficient. The next phase of our project is the student internship.
